This project was very much a collaboration between Nic Trimboli (owner), Ink Tank (art), Flynn Talbot (lighting) and us (interiors). The venue was and still is highly regarded as one of the city’s long-standing high-quality restaurants and is renowned for its innovative menus – both food and wines. So it was important to take the space forward, while still respecting its past and its loyal clientele. We brought in acoustic treatments, then tightened up the look with black waxed steel on the bar and black waxed timber screens; and we played on its sense of luxury with horse-hair and linen curtains used as privacy screening and layering of art throughout the spaces. The result has smartened up the venue and further claimed its iconic, yet contemporary, heart.
