Fish Boss

/design intent “Translate the fresh, fast-paced food truck experience into a 25sqm static fish-and-chip shop.”

This is the static conversion of the Fish Boss iconic food truck brand. Set over 25sqm in the Yagan Square development, this Catalano-owned fish and chip shop is a hole-in-the-wall concept to grow the brands offer. We looked back to the traditional fish and chip shop as inspiration, adopting the large front window and front door concept, and giving it an industrial funked-up resolution.

Our parameters were the 3.5m deep and 6.17m wide tenancy and black detailing along the top. In response, we blacked out the interior to make the frontage and people within it the heroes; commercial-grade clear acrylic mesh plating is engaged to reflect the fish markets, while also providing security; blue prawn crates make simple storage for condiments; and service moves from one window for ordering to another for pick-ups.

We brought in a white D-tile with its rounded-edge detailing for that nostalgic-yet-industrial aesthetic and terracotta tones to work back with the blue prawn crates. By pushing the shopfront to be minimal clean lines, it stands out from the complex and visually busy surrounding tenancies.
