Groper & His Wife

design intent Reflect the fresh offering and clean cooking methods of this fish and chip shop in a newly built restaurant.

This project was part of the major revamp of the Empire Village Shopping Centre at City Beach. It sits on a casual café and restaurant strip that lines the front of the Empire Village development and has diners spilling out onto undercover seating that overlooks a park.

We wanted to reflect the casual, friendly and local intent of the overall design of the venue, while giving the space its own identity through a blend of cool, industrial style and an old-school market feel. Today, the fresh, clean interior reflects the fish on offer (we believe this is the only Perth fish and chip shop to select fish from the market and fillet it onsite), while a mural by a local WA artist gives it a sense of fun and personality. It’s now a much-loved part of the community.
