/design intent “Morph the naïvity of the traditional poke bowl food lean-to into a shopping centre environment.”

We researched the traditional poke bowl vendor to bring an authentic architectural solution to this hole-in-the-wall food venue. Typically poke is served from a lean-to within the Japanese fish markets of Hawaii, so to reflect this we created a simple hexagonal structure, appealing signage and a Hawaiian palette.

Situated in Westfield Carousel, we negotiated and worked with centre management successfully to utilise the 1.5m lease line boundary to maximise our design intent and increase the seating area. Centre guidelines, project programme and high maintenance needs were balanced with budget through careful selection of durable and available materials.

By stepping outside usual design boundaries we achieved a high impact and successful solution for our client in just over 74sqm.
