Venn

design intent Establish the product offering and merchandising direction of the Venn retail store in line with the intended customer demographic of the venue and wider retail scene of Perth.

Venn was a multi-award-winning and multi-platform venue on the Perth hospitality and retail scene. It was the first venue of its type in Australia, offering retail store, bar/café, gallery and artist-in-residence spaces. This was all packed into an extensively renovated 1906 flour mill factory in one of Perth’s inner-city one-way streets. The venue sprawled over three levels, with the full commercial kitchen and artist studios on the basement level; the retail store, bar/cafe and laneway alfresco seating on ground level, with a mezzanine for the administration; and the gallery and rooftop deck on the top level.

Design Theory was involved in the shop from its inception. In collaboration with the owners, Lisa utilised her curatorial background to form a retail collection for the store and merchandising direction. She managed the growth of the store through its first year, then worked with Coup Creative to move it onto an online platform.
