Bam Bam Boo

design intent Create a ground-breaking Chinese restaurant that reflects its past, while looking into the future.

It was all about reinterpreting the Chinese restaurant vibe we know and love into a tech-savvy experience for a large, high-turnover CBD restaurant. We looked to tradition and culture, taking elements such as bamboo and raw and finished woods to reflect the traditional use of timber in Chinese courtyards. These elements also bring soul, balance, warmth and context to the newly built space, plus a sensory and nostalgic experience. We commissioned a large-scale, street art-style mural for the interior, brought strong colour to the exterior and interior and formed a large-scale ceiling sculpture from bamboo for a contemporary edge. Pushing food ordering processes into the future are ontable iPads that get your order to the kitchen super quick. We wanted the mix of old and new and analogue and digital to surprise, engage and comfort the diner.
